Disclaimer: Murderbot is from the series Murderbot Diaries, and is the property of Martha Wells. It appears here solely for the purpose of role-playing in
milliways_bar, from which no profit whatsoever is being made. Posts may contain spoilers all the way up through Network Effect.
"I could have become a mass murderer after I hacked my governor module, but then I realized I could access the combined feed of entertainment channels carried on the company satellites. It had been well over 35,000 hours or so since then, with still not much murdering, but probably, I don't know, a little under 35,000 hours of movies, serials, books, plays and music consumed. As a heartless killing machine, I was a terrible failure."
Appearance
Murderbot (it/its) is a construct, which means it is made of both inorganic parts and cloned human tissue. It looks like a human 1.88 meters tall with olive skin, short dark hair, and dark eyes. It looks androgynous, which is what tends to happen when you are designed without any sexual characteristics or typical human sex hormones.
Like all constructs (and augmented humans from its setting), it has a data port in the back of its neck. It has other inorganic parts as well, but these are almost always covered by clothing (long sleeves, full-length pants, and a jacket).
Murderbot is not able to eat or drink. It is asexual by design and configuration. It does not sleep and cannot dream. It is also cranky, paranoid, and suffers from near-crippling social anxiety.
ABILITIES
All humans, augmented humans, constructs, and bots in Murderbot's world have access to feeds, which are like a combination of Facebook profile, messaging service, and cloud computing storage. They can interface with various devices, systems, and bots using the feed. In Milliways, Murderbot communicates with the Bar this way, and also with its drones. When Murderbot is concentrating on doing multiple tasks in its feed, such as going over data while controlling drones, it gets an out-of-focus look.
Because it was built to interface with various systems and peripherals, and because it has learned to get very good at hacking as a matter of survival, it can hack wireless devices once it's taken the time to figure them out. It has not tried this yet, though.
Murderbot is significantly stronger, faster, more perceptive, and more resistant to damage than any human, even an augmented human, but it hides its abilities to fly under the radar. It also hides the energy weapons built into its forearms under long-sleeved shirts and jackets.
In addition, Murderbot has a multi-stream processing capability. It can effectively split its attention to perform multiple tasks in its feed at once, while also doing something in the physical world. Even augmented humans do not have this capability. It can also develop, integrate, and use new code or information from knowledge bases and learning modules with relative ease.
